Alternative Activity on any of the poems:
(a) Open a new Word document and answer the questions that follow
.Surface Level · Who is the speaker or speakers? · Who are the characters in the poem? · What is the subject or situation in the poem? · What are the events in the poem?
Deeper Level · How is the poem divided? Does it have multiple stanzas or just one? · Are there any unfamiliar words? If so, define them. · What kind of vocabulary does the poet use? Conversational? Informal? Formal? · Are the sentences and lines in normal word order or are they in inverted word order?
Application Level · What is the central idea the poet is trying to convey? · What is the attitude or tone the poet is trying to convey? · What is the theme of the poem? Is it simple or complex? Is there a universal theme? · What lines contribute to the development of the theme? How does the central idea, tone, or theme apply to your world?
Evaluation Level · Was the poem successful in establishing a significant theme? Yes / No Explain briefly
(b) Save your work and then e-mail the Word document on which you have answered the questions to your teacher (Send it as an attachment)

Writing task (100 points)
Your school newspaper has asked you to write an article to explain whether this poem / song succeeded in establishing a significant theme.
In your composition, you may relate to the following points:
· How it relates to The Generation Gap theme.
· Whether the speakers / characters are realistic or not.
· How relevant the poem / song is nowadays.
Write 100 - 120 words. Divide your writing into paragraphs (introduction; body, conclusion) Use connectives. Pay attention to Grammar and spelling.
(Teachers may ask you to either hand in the composition in class or e-mail them the Word document on which you have written your article. You may be asked to send it as an attachment)
